**Encoding Details:**
The master used by NF for this series is rather peculiar. Normally, from a 4K WEB-DL, you'd expect to extract chroma comparable to a 1080p 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 master. In this case, however, it's quite evident that NF simply upscaled an existing 1080p 4:2:0 master. Because of this, I decided to descale to 1080p 4:2:0 rather than 4:4:4, there simply wasn't enough chroma detail to justify the bloated bitrate, and 4:4:4 would have broken Dolby Vision compatibility anyway.
To be fair, the 4K stream doesn't descale 100% cleanly (NF clearly uses non standard upscaler), but by using the 1080p stream as a reference point, I achieved a very accurate approximation that looks far better than a naive downscale.
As for filtering, I applied a bit of deringing and dehaloing to tame the noticeable sharpening from the source, followed by a light denoise pass to clean up residual compression artifacts. A touch of grain was added, all wrapped up in CRF 11 encode.
As for the HDR and Dolby Vision grading, the dynamic range itself is rather mediocre and nothing to write home about. However, keeping the BT.2020 container is essential, as it allows covering the full DCI-P3 color gamut utilized by the studio, with a few scenes actually pushing even beyond P3. Dolby Vision RPU metadata was properly resampled for 1080p (Profile 8), and HDR10+ metadata was extracted from the native AV1 stream.
